“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
In life challenges are set before you that seem unattainable the more you look at them through a bird’s eye view, but the closer you get to your dreams the clearer they become. Although, as time fly’s by it seems as if the days will run out before my challenge will be completed, I found myself performing in areas that encourage me to keep the faith.
During the day I am a full time engineer, which only leaves a short amount of time and energy to perform at night, and still making time to prepare myself for the next day. Most events in the hip hop scene here in Chicago start around 10pm and end around 2am which only leaves 2 hours for me to make it home, sleep, and get ready for work. On August 6th I was asked to compete in an event put together by Psyde and Kyia from Chicago’s own “Psycho Drama” making this my seventeenth mic. I was the winner of the competition, leaving with 2 hours of free studio time from Boss Music Studios.
August 17th was a day to remember. This particular day I worked and drove an hour and a half in traffic in anticipation of the 3 events that I had booked for the evening. My first stop was a community event at Home of Life Baptist Church on the Westside of Chicago. This event was geared toward the encouragement and uplifting of the youth, and also to display their gifts and talents. Second stop was 5 minutes from the first event which was such a relief from the mental strain of driving in Chicago’s rush hour traffic. This event was an open mic set hosted by Lovely Lyricist. Finally, this night was concluded with a radio interview on the G-Spot Lounge, which helped me attain my eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth mic ALL in ONE DAY!!
August 25th I performed at the 89th street Block Club Party with the prince and princess of poetry Jeronimo and IMANI Truth which was my twenty first mic. August 26th, one of the Kings of Poetry asked me to feature on one of his tracks to his new album which made my twenty second mic and concluding August 27th, I was able to have a ball performing and participating in a back to school, Karaoke fundraiser helping me attain my twenty third mic.
I am now 23 mics down and 27 left to go!!! Stay tuned…
